Pierce Cartwright came to Alaska in 1948 after spending four years in the Navy during World War II and having graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in marketing and transportation. He started Pierce Cartwright Co in l950. In the early years the company was a "retail only" broker and was basically a one-man show with Pierce working out of his home. The company expanded into foodservice and confections in the l970's and grew as Alaska started growing rapidly and then exploded with the oil boom.
One of Pierce's sons, Gary Cartwright, joined the company in l978 after graduating from the University of Oregon with a degree in marketing. Gary has been President of the company since l984 and guided the company through the rapid growth period during and following the oil boom and throughout the 1990's during which the company continued to expand and add people. The company's Foodservice division grew rapidly during that time. Currently the company has three operating divisions: Retail, Foodservice and Confection, each headed by a department manager. Pam Christy joined the company in l992 and has been running the Foodservice side of the business since shortly after that time. In 2001 she was named the overall company Vice President and will give the company continuity and leadership well into the future. Other management includes Vicky Kelley who leads our confection team, Zach Vincent who heads up retail, and Gail Hubble who manages our deli department.

The Pierce Cartwright Company owns and operates out of our office building located in midtown Anchorage at 1205 International Airport Rd. We occupy 5600 sq feet of our building, which includes office space, meeting/conference rooms, sample warehouse, and a large test kitchen.
Our Test Kitchen is an 800 sq foot fully equipped facility, which includes everything needed for professional training, cuttings, and meetings. This state-of -the art kitchen allows us to present our products to the trade in the most professional manner possible and gives our in-house chef the facility he needs for menu planning, sample preparation and distributor training.
We provide a large on-site walk-in freezer for all frozen product samples. This keeps our samples in the best possible condition for quality presentations.
