"Sausage With The Quality Cooked In"

North Side Food Corp. was founded in the early 1900's by Christian Hofmann.  He and his wife owned a butcher shop located on Spring Garden Avenue on the North Side of Pittsburgh.  Mr. Hofmann's shop supplied all varieties of meat to the local restaurants by horse and buggy.

When his business out grew the butcher shop, Mr. Hofmann moved to another location on Spring Garden Avenue, where he continued to slaughter and process meats.  Moving to a third location in the 1940's, the company began to expand its geographic area beyond Pittsburgh to all of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.

In 1975, North Side Foods began manufacturing pork sausage patties for fast service restaurants which were beginning breakfast programs. By 1982, the success of quick service breakfast was well established and the need for pre-cooking became evident.  North Side Foods developed a patented cooking process which fully cooked our product to a golden brown color.  Because of its high quality, this product quickly established North Side Foods as the industry leader in value added pork products. Within one year, all production lines were operating at capacity and production of retail items was eliminated.

Due to the success of the fully cooked sausage patty, the Ember Farms division was established to provide the food service industry with a complete line of fully cooked pork products.  Growth of the Ember Farms customer base has led to product expansion for the division.  The addition of national chain accounts has given the Ember Farms division the opportunity to manufacture a spicy sausage patty, a whole hog style sausage patty, and most recently a low-fat turkey sausage patty and skinless link, along with the regular line of sausage products.

Between 1989 and 1990, North Side Foods Corp built two new production facilities - one in Atlanta, Georgia, and the second in Arnold, Pennsylvania. The Atlanta facility manufactures sausage patties.  The Arnold facility, which is twice as large as the Atlanta plant, has expanded capacities for pork and turkey sausage patties and links, and other pork based products. Both plants have state-of-the-art equipment to improve production capacity and efficiency.  Future plans include expansion of our current pork line to respond to the needs of our customers.
